Kids Games | Alpharetta Rotary Fundraiser Returns For Ninth Year
Classic cars, an array of food, kids’ games and live entertainment come to Alpharetta when the Alpharetta Rotary Club hosts its ninth annual Funfest.
The event takes place Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 333 North Point Center East.
About 100 classic cars, trucks and motorcycles will be lined up for the classic car show where prizes for the best automobiles will be given.
“This isn’t a huge car show, but we get a lot of compliments on it,” said car show organizer Joel Canada. “The same people come back every year and have a great time.”
Car buffs can also see antique cars at the Onion Ring Rally the Friday evening before the event from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Varsity off Haynes Bridge Road and Westside Parkway in Alpharetta. For a $25 charitable donation, enthusiasts are invited to exhibit their vehicle.
On the day of the event, the kids’ activity zone will be set up with a petting zoo, pony rides, a rock climbing wall and face painting.
At the community market place, more than 20 local businesses will have booths set up displaying products are services.
Dozens of local restaurants will be competing for the title of Best Food of Fun Fest 2010. Ribs, pizza, steaks, Mexican food, gourmet cuisine, desserts and ice cream will be available from some of the most popular restaurants in Alpharetta.
Throughout the day, live entertainment by local acts such as Just Wanna Dance, Lupita Sosa Mexican Ballet, Sheldon Fisher Fiddle Team, Tommy Johns Magician, Daza Dance Studio, Aragon the Magician and Karl Drake Irish Dancers will perform on the main stage.
“There’s something for everybody at this event,” said Bill Weeks, the event organizer. “It’s a nice, fun day to spend with your family.”
The money raised from the event will go back into the community through the Rotary club’s support of local organizations and charities, according to Weeks.
“This is our biggest fundraiser,” he said. “And it’s a great way to let the community know that we’re here.”
For a $10 raffle entry fee, event-goers can enter a chance to win a week-long cruise or a vacation to Hawaii.
